Description

NGC1055 is an obliquely edge-on galaxy seen in the direction of the Constellation Cetus at an approximate distance of 52 Million Light-Years. It is about the same size as the Milky Way Galaxy with a diameter of around 116,000 Light-Years. It has a prominent nuclear bulge, and heavy dust lanes obscuring most of the galaxy's arms. It is thought to be undergoing heavy star formation. It is associated gravitationally with another prominent galaxy M77 in a small group of galaxies.
