Description

A technical challenge with my ST8XME which is a sensitive CCD but NABG...

I have used a 4X barlow and stacked 90 captures of 4 seconds, with a red filter on my FLT110 refractor. The magnitude difference between Saturne and Mimas achieves... 14 Magnitudes !! The dynamic ranges achieves 100 dB.

The halo around Saturn has been substracted with IRIS software to make visible Mimas & Encelade.

With a bigger Telescope, Janus may be detected...

This image shows how difficult it is to detect these small satellites hidden in the Saturn blur... However, it' amazing to think that William Herschel has detected them in 1789 which its giant but poorly stable 1.2 meter diameter telescope (12 meters length !!) perched on its giant scaffolding !!.
