Description

Say October, 1610. By means, among others, of applying the recently described projection method by Johannes Kepler, Galileo aims his telescope to the sun and rapidly something catches his eye; the sun shows, from time to time, dark areas that seem to move and evolve throughout the time, the so-called sunspots (D & E). Although these observations were not new since Chinese astronomers had reported this phenomenon at least 1000 bC, Galileo was the first to truly understand the riddle of the nature behind the solar maculae and its profound implications; the most relevant, the decadence of the prevalent Aristotelic conception of the Universe.
