Messier 46 is an open cluster located 5500 light years away in the constellation Puppis. The planetary nebula NGC 2438 can be seen within the cluster in this image, although it is likely not a member of the cluster itself. The small red dot up and to the left of Messier 46 is another planetary nebula cataloged as PN G 231.4+4.4.
