Description

M42 and M43 are defuse nebulae of the Milky Way in the constellation of Orion. They are about 1340 light years distant, on the near edge of the Orion Molecular Cloud Complex.

M42 (NGC1976) was discovered in 1610 by Nicolas Peiresc. It was recorded by Charles Messier as M42 in 1796.

M43 (NGC1982) was first noted in 1731 by Jean-Jacques Mairan. It was also recorded by Charles Messier in 1796.

The blue reflection Running Man Nebula (NGC1973 + NGC1975 + NGC1977, or Sharpless 279) was names about 20 years ago.

Revision A combined 5sec, 30sec and 120sec exposures with Adam Block's"missing data" technique in CCDStack.

Revision B used NIK Filters HDR Efex Pro2 to combine the same exposures.
