We’ve had a long string of weather unsuitable for much imaging, but I’ve squeezed in one night of RGB and one of Hα, neither under optimal conditions. I ran the RGB with no filter, which is a bad option with the ST-80 optics; there was a lot of chromatic aberration I had to try to process out. The Hα was taken under an almost-full Moon, but the biggest problem was clouds that cut the session way short; I really needed more Hα. It was very difficult to process out the glare of Alnitak; I wasn’t too successful. After all was said and done, I wanted to see the difference in color between the Horsehead and the Flame, and that shows up fine. Overall, this image is a big improvement over my last HαRRGB attempt on this target.

Stacking: Neb 4, bad pixel map, bias included, 33 flats, match histograms, manual demosaic & square, trans+rot align, Nebulosity 40-60tile stack.

Exposure: 11x600 s

Stacking: Neb 4, bad pixel map, bias included, 33 flats, extract R, match histograms, manual square, trans+rot align, Nebulosity 40-60tile stack.

Processing was so extensive I didn’t record it.
