Description

Shot over 8 nights in February, sometimes only getting a handful of frames each time. The last session was shot from the River Ridge observatory where I only got 5 frames due to pesky technical issues. Wifi kept dropping out, focuser didn't want to work sometimes. UGH!

I've been waiting a long time to shoot this photo, sometimes skipping over it in favor of other targets like the Rosette and Horsehead. I was trying to get all my issues behind me before shooting this one to make it the best image I possibly could.

I really did not have to do very much processing on this at all. The stacked result had very low noise and I did not need to saturate whatsoever. I was totally pleased with the colors that came straight off the camera. I stretched the image pretty hard so I could get those faint clouds in the surrounding space. It just seemed like a waste not to include them in such a wide shot.

But stretching so hard caused the core to be a little blown out and you cannot see the Trapezium at all. But I think it was a nice trade off.
