Description

Here is my first LRGB of Jupiter using the ASI120MM-S camera. As mentioned before, huge thanks to fellow Astorbinner Mitch Robbins for his advice regarding capture and processing techniques.

The shadow on Jupiter's disk is from Io (Io itself is also transiting the disk, but is hard to see against the brightness of the disk). Europa is the moon at near left. Ganymede is farther left. I rotated /flipped this image to show an "erect image" orientation.

I waited until Jupiter was high to help, but even so, seeing was not so good last night. There was a fair amount of bouncing/boiling in the image during capture, but I captured enough frames to help improve things a little.

All videos were 60 seconds long. Frame capture varied due to exposure setting. I got at least 1600 frames for each filter, and kept the best 30% in AutoStakkert, using only 5 or 6

AP's for each filter. Details were as follows:

L: gain = 53 exp = 9.2

R: gain = 43 exp = 35.2

G: gain = 38 exp = 30.1 ms

B: gain = 49 exp = 32.1 ms

In retrospect, I probably should have reduced the exp time on some of the colors and used a higher gain. The RGB stacks were very bright, and may have washed out some details.

Processing Notes:

* AVI videos were created in Firecapture.

* Stacks were created in AutoStakkert!2.

* Stacks were sharpened in Registax.

* Photoshop CS2 was used to combine the channels into an LRGB image.

* Registax was used again on the LRGB to get a bit more sharpening.

* I have not used PixInsight yet on this, but plan to try it for some additional sharpening (Local Histogram Equalization, and/or Multi Scale Median Transformation) as well as general color and level edits.
