Description

NGC 2613 is a barred spiral galaxy in Pyxis about 66 million light-years away from Earth and is thought to resemble our own Milky Way. The two smaller galaxies near the bright blue star TYC6570-2802-1 in the upper right are PGC23977 (the larger one) and PGC86225. Also visible in the upper left quadrant is PGC86225.

NGC 2613 is an extremely massive galaxy that contains a deeply embedded active nucleus, probably hosting a supermassive black hole, lying within a smooth bulge of stars from which the many tightly wound spiral arms emanate.
