Description

This is my first widefield shot with my new iOptron Skytracker v2 and my first attempt at using an intevalometer. Both worked very well! I was glad to see that I was able to capture a lot of the nebulosity in the region, including (if you look very, very closely) the Witch Head Nebula.

I stopped the lens down to f/3.5 . Any faster seems to let in a lot of glare (light pollution and a general blue cast) that is hard to correct. Even at f/3.5 , I had to crop out a lot of LP at the bottom of the image (caused by house lights in my subdivision). I hated to throw that part of the image away, but I could not get it to look good.

Planning to try a slower f/stop on my next session, especially if the target is closer to the ground, as Orion was on this night. One benefit of slower f/speeds is that they seem to yield nice diffraction spikes on the stars - looks cool, and makes it easier to determine good focus when not using the laptop and Backyard EOS.

Hope to process some of my other widefield shots soon.

Thanks for looking!

Pat
