Description

With a full moon, my camera in the shop, and some clear skies, I decided I may as well shoot something. Other than continuing to pile on the Ha for my M82 jets (which will never end ), I took a break for a couple of hours over the last couple of nights to see if I could grab Omega Centauri. Thanks to Bobby Gross for loaning me my old QSI 583 to keep imaging during the 690 downtime. The first night was a total disaster and I just about gave up. The stars looked awful, the lp is hideous down low to the south, the flats wouldn't calibrate properly, and yadda yadda. But, I gave it another go and was glad I did. I'd love to shoot this with a widefield setup from darker skies someday soon where maybe it would be a little higher over head. Either way, I'm quite happy to have this target in my back pocket now

Here is a quick superimposed image I made of the relative size and location of Omega Centauri at the meridian from where I shoot from. And yes, those lights in the background you see are the local Wal-Mart. I feel so fortunate to have a huge shopping complex right behind the house and two Wal-Marts within a mile of me.
