Description

NGC5350 is a magnificent barred spiral galaxy near the center of the frame. I feel like this one would get more imaging love if it weren't for the beautifully gold but somewhat in-your-face 6.5mag star sitting just next to it. There are several other elliptical and spherical galaxies in the frame. The most notable and largest one is NGC5353. This galaxy contains, at its core, a blazar. Blazars are a rather extreme type of active galactic nucleus. It is a compact quasar, namely a supermassive black hole with its relativistic jet pointed squarely at us. As such, it is one of the most energetic observable objects from earth. Its an interesting topic to look up.

Anyway, this is another target I picked just due to the interesting distribution of substance here. That star gave me fits with the microlens diffraction pattern and actually a very big reflection halo off my corrector plate. You may find the edges if you go looking, I know you are all pixel peepers!
