Description

I'd consider this shot a new personal best, so it gets a nice frame. For those following my last few images, I had a weekend of exceptional seeing in mid-April and a mountain of data to get through. On the night of 17/18-APR, I was wrapping up the sessions and clouds were starting to intrude on the evening. I settled on one final round on Jupiter and then quickly hopped over to the Moon before I was shut down. I was a bit surprised when I came back and looked at what I had here. This was by far the cleanest sequence of the bunch and one of the last datasets I looked at!

The image was shot at full almost full vertical resolution on the ASI174MM, since the camera was situated so that this string of celestial bodies was oriented up and down. Due to this all channels were shot at the max available framerate of ~135fps. Interestingly, I don't have image scale in the recommended spot for planetary imaging. The camera with a 2.5x powermate on the EdgeHD8" lands less than 200 pixels across the diameter of Jupiter. I have a few question marks as to why this one was the best of my bunch, but there is no doubt that excellent seeing may have been the only thing that really mattered.
