Description

NGC 3614 is a barred spiral located about 10 degrees from Dubhe in Ursa Major . Although it has an apparent magnitude of 11.6, it's surface brightness is so faint at 23.35 that I was quite unable to see it visually and that makes it quite a difficult imaging challenge. Especially as I had some collimation problems as you can see by the state of the stars!

NGC 3614A, the little smudge to the right of and below ngc 3614, is not actually a companion as its redshift indicates it is nearly 3 times further away. I can see no evidence of any connecting bridges between the 2 galaxies.

Taken on a rather good night, after months of rubbish we finally get a good night and then we get 4 in a row! Typical.
