Description

These 3 images are single frames out of my 3 minutes avi file (43ms per frame).

http://www.astrobin.com/248438/

Now in correct orientation and colors red and blue exchanged.

( Original was taken using OIII filter, therefore Mercury not a black dot, but redish)

What we see here is the initial contact phase and the famous blob, before we see a round, isolated

black (in my case redish) Mercury dot. Images A,B,C

This phenomenon is mentioned in many articles.

Now my question: I have not seen this blob on other images on AB.

Is it an earth atmospheric effect, which is completely supressed if special Ha line telescopes are used?

any comments highly welcome

cheers
