Description

Mars visits the Rho Ophiuchi cloud complex.

The one was a team effort. Alex Cherney did the tricky polar alignment of the iOptron on the Octans,

Paul Litchen did the image stacking in Deep Sky Stacker using 3.3.4 (beta).

Paul Litchen did the image processing using PixInsite.

My job was to aim the camera and press the intervalometer start button - which had been setup by Alex Cherney.

Camera: Sony A7S (modified)

Lens: Samyung 135mm, f2.8

Exposures: 17 x 60 seconds, @ ISO 1600 (could have done with a lot more)

Darks: 31

PixInsite processing consisted of:

Dynamic Background Extraction (DBE): Software equivalent to using flats

Masked Noise Reduction. To smooth the dark areas of the image

Histogram Transformation: To stretch the image

Colour Saturation: To increase the colour. No colour correction was required.
