Description

The large image is a stack of 60 x 15 second exposures, while the smaller inset image is a stack of the best 20% of 30,000 frames taken at 100 FPS. Both images were done with an ASI178MM camera on an 11" EdgeHD scope at 2800 mm and a pixel scale of 0.18". The seeing was a little over 2" but by using a very high frame rate (in the smaller image) and selecting the best frames we are able to freeze the effects of the atmosphere and obtain resolutions as low as the telescope can provide. The Dawes limit of an 11" telescope is about 0.4" and the two stars in the inset image are separated by 0.8" so, in the case of separating point sources (stars), we could probably go a little lower than the Dawes limit.
