Description

NGC4298 and 4302 are a pair of spiral galaxies about 55 million light years distant. NGC 4302 is the edge on galaxy and has a diameter of about 97,000 light years, which makes it similar in size to the Milky Way. The smaller NGC 4298 is about 50,000 light years across. Even though both galaxies are only about 600,000 light years apart, there is little tidal interaction between them. The small spiral galaxy to the right of NGC 4302 is PGC 169114 which is about 1.2 billion light years distant.
