Description

Abell 2065 is a galaxy cluster in the constellation Corona Borealis that lies at an enormous distance of about 1 billion light years. Among its 400 or so galaxies, its brightest members are of 16th magnitude. Abell 2065 is a challenging subject to image and process; it benefits from a very good dark site, a low-noise camera, and lots of aperture. I tried imaging it two years ago with disappointing results, but this attempt produced a much better result due to improved equipment and processing.

For those of you who like to compare images to star charts, please note that this image is flipped north-south. My capture and stacking software both automatically flip the raw fits files (but why?), and I did not catch it on this one before uploading.
