Description

Just south of the little "H" of M29 is this crazy asterism. See if you can find the Red Necked Emu in the image.

----------

I have been wanting, for days, to find a better approach to field star mitigation. Finally found one. Maybe now you can see the Red Necked Emu?

Once again, the spongiform appearance is not nebular structure, but rather the distribution of very many faint field stars. A fractal distribution.

---------

Okay, now that we can nearly remove all the field stars, Rev E puts some back in. I find it looks a bit unnatural to have the field stars so heavily suppressed. In other images where a distinctive, fine featured, nebula exists behind all the field stars - like the Veil Nebula - it may make more sense to have a near total field star removal. But not so much for images like this. And none at all in other images, like dark cloud regions, where the field stars are an important part of the story.

--------

Rev F: Experiments in early stage wavelet layer denoising and field star moderation. A close examination will show that this version shows the same stars as the previous version, but without all the low grade, small structure, noise in the base layer of the image. Looks to me like we were bouncing noise in the previous image, to look like very faint stars in the background. A close examination of the raw image shows that there were no such stars in the acquired stack.

... and believe it or not, the numerous field stars were seriously moderated here. You should see the raw image.

---------

Whole new approach, using super-pixel deBayering, drizzled integration, synthetic luminance, linear space field star erosion, and then stretching to nonlinear space.
