Description

Arp188 also know as the Tadpole Galaxy is a disrupted barred spiral galaxy in the constellation Draco. It is also known as PGC 57129. It is located about 420 million light years distant. It is thought that the tail was caused by an intruder galaxy that passed in front of Arp188 which caused stars and dust to be extracted due to tidal forces. The intruder is visible in this image as the “star” just to the right and below the nucleus of Arp188.
