Description

The Rosette Nebula [Caldwell 49] is a large, circular H II region located near one end of a giant molecular cloud 5,200 light years away in the constellation of Monoceros [The Unicorn]. At the centre of the nebula is the open cluster NGC2244 which was formed from the matter within the nebula itself.
