Description

The Snake Nebula (also known as Barnard 72) is a dark nebula in the Ophiuchus constellation. It is a small but readily apparent S-shaped dust lane that snakes out in front of the Milky Way star clouds from the north-north-west edge of the bowl of the Pipe Nebula. It is 650 ly distant from Earth.

This image was captured in Padre Bernardo/GO - Brazil, during the 9th Brazilian Meeting of Astrophotography.

Technical data

9 lights 300s, ISO 800, total integration time: 45 min. Camera Temperature 20 - 25 ºC. No darks, bias or flats applied.
