      Description

It takes light about 7,100 years to get from the Bubble nebula to earth and about 7 years just to traverse the diameter of the bubble itself. At the center of the bubble is a very hot O-type star that is 45 times more massive than the sun and several hundred thousand times more luminous. Stellar winds and radiation pressure from the star have created the egg shaped shell of gas that forms the bubble which lies in a region of dense molecular clouds and dust.

For my first narrow-band Hubble palette image I wanted to pick a colorful object and the Bubble nebula fit the bill. This data was taken with my automated roll out C14 Edge system over a period of about three nights. Focusing was done in real time (while the shutter is open) using FocusLock. Everything worked pretty much as planned with the telescope neatly parked at the end of each session the morning. (Other runs since then haven't been so clean, so I'm still working out bugs.)

I had to figure out the processing for this data but once I got the initial combination dialed in, the colors and detail jumped right out. Still, I took a lot of runs at the final image to dial in the color and contrast. I struggled a bit to decide how to handle the green channel. In the end, I chose to include a hint of green, which I think adds a bit of depth the result. As always, C&C is welcome. Enjoy...

PS Version 'C' is the IOTD version but I decided to fiddle a bit more with the green channel and I like the latest rendition a bit more. So, here it is...
