Description

Messier 11 - The Wild Duck Cluster

The name derives from the brighter stars forming a "V" shape that resembles a flock of ducks flying. Bit of a stretch for me to see. Located in the rich star background of the constellation of Scutum, It is one of the most compact and denser open clusters in our area of the galaxy. It lies at an estimated distance of 6000 light years, and an estimated age of 250 million years old or older.
