Description

NGC 6946 is a spiral galaxy about 18 million light-years away between constellations Cepheus and Cygnus near the Milky Way plane, therefore is obscured because we see it through the material of our galaxy. Also known as Fireworks Galaxy as far has been observed inside until nine supernovae in only 100 years. Was discovered by British astronomer William Herschel in 1798.

This wide field image also contains the open cluster NGC 6939 formed by a group of star from 10 to 12 magnitude, altogether can be observed as a light patch using binoculars, requiring a telescope for solve its components.
