Description

I have let this image (and its crop) sit on my hard drive for the last week, unsure whether to post up or not. The reason I have dithered (pun intended) is that I think during my final session of gathering luminance I suffered thin high cloud resulting in the loss of definition within the faint brown dust of the two LDN. I am not 100% sure though as perhaps at my image scale I shouldn't expect to see too much detail and definition.

Processing has been difficult I have to admit, teasing the dust, combating the image becoming overwhelmed by stars, gradients (at the rear of my garden there is a rail line and one clear night the maintenance crew was out and about shining torches etc), having sufficient colour to enrich that lovely brown dustiness for which the constellation of Cepheus is famed. In the end I'm not convinced balancing all of these demands that I've really let the image shine, aiming as I am for what I realise is my growing preference and style for a 'natural' tone and feel. My FOV is a little too wide as well, not close enough for good resolution of LDN1250, yet not wide enough to include LDN1235 . . . the predatory shark giving chase! Oh well, the muddled composition has also given me reason to pause and not sure I am ready for another mosaic having completed a number this summer and wanting to finish my 4-pane Ha mono Heart and Soul of last year. Nevertheless there is merit in the image, so here it is. I have presented the frame orientated portrait format to better show the chasing fishes!
