Description

The little Trifid Nebula is situated in little Vulpecula, a combined emission and reflection nebula inmidst a dark lane of the summer milky way. Its other name is little Cocoon nebula, given evidently by the semblance to its more known relative.

We are looking here out of our local spur, which are the foreground stars and the nebula, onto the the outskirts of the Sagittarius arm further away. Its stars are obscured by foreground dust and hence the reddening of the many small stars.
