Description

This was one of the first objects my son and I observed when we got our CGEM / 8" scope a few years ago, and I have always wanted to try to image it. It is a difficult nebula to get detail on because it is so small (37"), and a full moon doesn't help. Also, the ring in the middle is bright, which requires short exposures. This was shot at 2800 mm because of size and I did 300 x 30 second luminous frames, but used less than half of them. This was combined with 40 minutes each of R, G and B. All binned 1x1. The inset is an enlargement of the nebula at the center of the image. The second inset, to the right, is a Hubble image of the same object. To get as much detail as possible, I performed a combination of up-sampling and deconvolution in PixInsight. Other than the full moon, the sky was good and calm. Guiding ran between 0.35" and 0.45" RMS the whole night.
