Description

This is the kind of a local that deserves our attention on the lunar topography, Rupes Recta is one of the largest lunar faults with its 114 km and despite "looking" one steep hillside, actually has a very gentle slope. It can be admired both with the sun east or to the west, but always in low angle so we can enjoy all its glory. In this photo especially with low lighting coming from the east the shadow casted by the wall is in stark contrast because the terrain west is lower and this causes a great degree of contrast in its margin. Preferably it is then that we must enjoy it with even more modest instruments because it greatly facilitates viewing.

Rima Birt is a channel, probably caused by the collapse of a lava tube that once ran through the lunar soil. There are many such channels spread across the lunar surface deserving to be seen, because to the eye is easier to distinguish lines than points.

In Rima Birt both northern part as south terminal is enlarged, giving the distinct impression that the lava surged by one of these sites and ran to the other where penetrated.

Out of curiosity using QuickMap, I traced an elevation profile between the northern part and the southern part and I could just see that north the ground is about 50-70 meters higher than the south, which thus leads us to suppose that this flow actually occurred, lava must have flowed from north to south.

That's kind of interesting fun for those who like me are in love with our beautiful moon.
