Description

Eta Carinae or Carina Nebula, also known as NGC 3372, is a marvelous nebula lying in the heart of the Southern Milky Way. Surrounding the star Eta Car. are wonderfully photogenic dark and bright red nebulosity, one of Milky Way's largest star forming region. It is truly massive, and by that I (also) mean it's angluar size!, almost 3 times M42. Therefore, it can be captured from modest focal lenght scopes (or telephoto lenses, as here), of about 200-500mm. It is easily visible to the naked eye, even from moderetaly dark suburbs, and a jewel in binoculars from dark locations.

This image is the result of 1 hour of integration, and the red nebulosity was actually captured better than anticipated, because my DSLR is not modified, blocking most of the Ha in this bandpass. Some drifting due to PE and polar misalignment also caused (slightly) elongated stars. All things considered, to me, this image is my best result of Eta Car to date, and might not be recaptured next year, as I may go for different targets. You can check my other attempts on my gallery. What do you think?
