Description

Sharpless 119, Sh2-119, is a reasonably large complex of emission nebulosity in the constellation of Cygnus and rests about 2 degrees east of the North American Nebula and near the magnitude 5 star 68 Cygni.

The nebula was catalogued by astronomer S. Sharpless in his "Catalogue of HII Regions", published in 1959. Sharpless described it as a large (have an apparent diameter of about 2 degrees) and "bright" nebula. The emission nebula is accompanied by a number of dark dust lanes and globules. In addition there are tendrals that seem to connect the nebula to the North American Nebula off the image to the east "up in this image".

This image covers about 4X6 degrees of sky. North is to the left...

The image has some OIII amd SII emission components but is dominated by Halpha.
