Description

The Rosette Nebula (AKA Caldwell 49) is a large, diffused H II region towards the constellation of Monoceros. The UV photons from the open cluster NGC 2244 (Caldwell 50) is a main source for ionizing the surrounding abundant hydrogen atoms. Due to the rose-like appearance, this Rose may be the biggest Rose in the entire universe.
