Description

This is my attempt to image the famous "Pillars of Creation" from HST ...

The object was low on the horizon but the result was OK even I struggled quite a lot with guiding.

I also took 10 x 600s exposure without the LPV4 filter on 1 august.

The contrast was not as good. So I decided to use only the 6 x 1800s subs with LPV4 filter.

I only used the "no filter" subs for balancing the star colors using a mask.

I also replaced the L channel with the Red channel in the stacked image. The R channel is equivalent to an Ha filter with 18 nm width with the LPV4 and OSC imager. It allowed me to reduce noise as most of the signal is in Ha. I used the other channels for color information only.

Pre-processing done in Pixinsight :

- overscan area offset correction

- bias correction

- dark correction using 7 x 1800 s darks

- flat correction

- hot pixel correction

- debayer

- registration

- stack

Processing done in Pixinsight :

- replacing the L channel with the Red channel

- backgroung color neutralisation

- color calibration using nebula

- deconvolution masking low levels and using a "deringing" mask to protected bright stars

- non linear image creation

- color saturation boost masked

- SCNR noise reduction

- TGV denoise (no mask)

- final color adjust

- balancing star color (mask) using the color infomation from the 10 x 600s unused subs acquired without the LPV4 filter.

Final image :

- jpeg calibration done in Mac Photo (levels adjust, further saturation boost and enhancing local contrast)
