Description

This classic image of wide field covers part of the molecular clouds in Orion, and contains some of most characteristic objects into this complex. At left: the Flame Nebula (NGC 2024) is a emission nebula placed under Alnitak (the left star of Orion's Belt) that is the brightest star in the image. At right: the Horsehead Nebula (B 33) is a dark cloud contrasted against the redish emission nebula IC 434. Others nebulas in the image are NGC 2023 (at center), IC 435 (a bit down), IC 432 (at left of the Flame) and IC 431 (above the last one).
