Description

The nebula to the left is the Heart, designated IC 1805 and named after its resemblance to a human heart. To the right is the Soul nebula, IC 1848. Located in Cassiopeia about 6,000 light-years from Earth in the Perseus arm of the Milky Way, these nebulae shine brightly in the red light of ionized hydrogen. Several star clusters populate the image throughout, including the centers of both nebulae in this active star forming region.
