Description

Old data, new processing, mosaic showing the central spine of the swan. The two bright stars are Alpha Cyg (top) and Gamma Cyg (bottom). Each panel is a 12-image drizzle stack at F:4.

... and now we can better see that the hazy overcloud extends from about the middle of the image and exends downward and to the left. The top left and bottom right regions show less obscured and higher contrast clouds of stars.

Rev B: The tiniest suppression of Green at mid-range brings back the expected pink in NGC 7000. Also did a slight contrast stretch, which makes details pop out better, but unfortunately obscures the cloudy overcast as from looking through smoke.

Our eyes have such a tiny dynamic range (and perhaps our display devices too...) that it becomes very challenging to squeeze in as much information as possible from the data to visible levels.

I suspect that the initial yellowish tinge in the main nebula happened because, after only one hour of integration at F:4, we have so few photons arriving from celestial objects that it competes with the sky background noise which is mostly greenish. And green + red = yellow.

I don't think the Canon 6D sensor is red-starved. The poor sensor is just plain photon starved at all wavelengths. F:0.5 anyone?

Description: By the merest depression of G in mid-range, I got the pink of NGC 7000 back. Slight contrast enhancement too, but still shows the overcloud.
