The great spirals, with their enormous radial velocities and insensible proper motions, apparently lie outside our (Solar) system - Edwin Hubble, first page of his Ph.D. Dissertation 1917

NGC 4725 (centre)/ NGC 4747 (upper left) /NGC 4747 (lower right) and PGC86434 (upper right) constitute a beautiful quadrupel of galaxies belonging to the Coma-Sculptor galaxy Cluster. The red K-star Hip 62778 at the left border is a true binary star.

The data for this picture were collected in june/july 2016.

The short nights during this period did not allow for any visual observations or any other additional LRGB targets during this time.

The nights with moon were used for the Ha data.

As I am still lacking knowledge and experience (and time) a significant amount of time was necessary for my processing . Back in Oktober - having first finished the LRGB part of the processing - I decided to rework the picture and incorperate the Ha data which I originale disgarded. The result is the picture displayed here.

Unfortunately I was just not able to finish the picture in a seasonally more adequate time but maybe some of you might still enjoy this beautiful constellation of galaxies even late into the year.

By now I generated more data of different objects which I am planning to process and publish here in the next weeks/months - unfortunately most of them will be of season as well.

Beside the aesthetic aspect of these galaxies there is a wealth of interesting astronomy happening here.

Maybe this site is not the place to put it, but I would like to start a site next year with more information about the really exciting astronomical aspects underlying this and other pictures to follow.

Submitted The date and time when you submitted this image for IOTD/TP consideration.	...
Views by Submitters (available since September 19th, 2023) Every image is assigned to 50% of available Submitters. In the event that at least 80% of them don't view the image before its time in the IOTD/TP process expires, it's assigned to the other 50% of Submitters and the process begins anew.
Promotions by Submitters When 3 distinct Submitters promote the image, it moves on to the next stage of the process: evaluation for Top Pick status. This requirement, in addition to anonymization of images and distribution to only a subset of them, prevents biases and ensures that the best images are selected.
Promotions by Reviewers When 3 distinct Reviewers promote the image, it moves on to the next stage of the process: evaluation for IOTD status.
Early dismissal Staff members have a lot of images to inspect on a daily basis, and they can dismiss images if they believe they don't meet the requirements for IOTD/TP selection. If an image is dismissed 5 times, it's removed from the process. This streamlines the process and ensures that any bias present in promotions could be overruled by other staff members.
