Description

I finally had a clear, dark, transparent night. I decided to image NGC 404 because I've never

imaged it before. I've wanted to image it but just never got around to it. I had problems with

my mount tracking tonight and couldn't really figure out what was wrong. It may just be that

my scope was pointed to the Zenith and this was causing the mount problems. For some

reason mounts do not like to be pointed at the Zenith. As far as images go this image does not

have spectacular colors or shapes. It is a simple image of a star and a galaxy. However it's

simplicity is what is attractive and appealing to me. NGC 404 is challenging to see through an

eyepiece. NGC 404 is very dim at 10.3 magnitude whereas Mirach is a 2 magnitude star and

NGC 404 is located just 6.8' from Mirach. Because Mirach is so bright you have to crank up the

magnification in order increase the contrast between he two objects so you can see NGC 404.

Description: I've not been able to get outside and image for a while because of the weather. I decided to reprocess
an image to see if I could improve the image. I
cleaned up the image a little and flattened the
background some.
