Description

Subject: NGC-2392 (Clown Nebula) in Gemini. Discovered by William Herschel in 1787; about 2870 light-years distant and roughly 48" in diameter.

Capture notes: This was my first and maybe overly ambitious effort with a Celestron Edge HD8 I picked up in October. Not surprisingly, my AVX struggled with the weight -- especially with the imaging train attached -- but I was expecting much worse. Hoping to use the scope, possibly with a beefier mount, for galaxy season. In retrospect I probably should have taken more, shorter exposures.

Processing: The normal narrowband pallettes seemed either much too green or much too magenta. I ended up doing something off the wall and mapping O-iii to red, Ha to green and S-ii to blue.
