Description

I should not have posted this image, because it really is horrible. It was an experiment in LRGB creation in PixInsight, which I am studying. The RGB subs were binned 2x2, and very noisy. In fact, I had to dig these images out of my trash bin, because my first attempt processing them (In Photoshop CS) didn't go very well. I shot better luminance frames, but utilized the RGB data to synthesize the L channel. Bias and darks, but no flats.

Finally, after just about giving up hopes of ever combining anything even remotely close to "a step in the right direction", I stumbled across a YouTube video from 'pomfretvids' titled Reddit's M31 data in PixInsight. Basically, I did close to everything he did, but rushed through it. Well, it took me about four hours!

I plan on doing the same thing again using some different techniques and see if I can improve on this. But, it was a tremendous learning experience, and I've found by watching these numerous tutorial videos, I am finally getting the hang of this dauntingly steep PixInsight learning curve!

Description: Another go at the old RGB data using Harry's Astroshed tutorial on LRGB combination. I took a few side steps, like synthesizing the L channel from the RGB, some unsharp masking... A different take...

This series does include a new blue set that I found (1x1), as well as flats I shot.

Description: Think I am putting this imaging project to rest with this final version. I took my first attempt and my second attempt (using Harry's Astroshed LRGB video tutorial), and went old school. I combined both images in Photoshop (egads!), using the first attempt as a luminance layer. Could not find a way to do this in PixInsight, but I bet it's there. Anyway, last call!

It is amazing to me how different tutorials result in such different final images. Fascinating.
