Description

The main purpose of this image was to experiment with dithering the data collection to randomize the sum of all noise instead of processing using dark and bias frames. Imaging conditions were not ideal and I only had 10 wind affected frames to choose from but good for the exersize.

I also used a new stacking method available in DSS which is called Super Pixel Stacking. It uses 4 RGGB sets of pixels as one "Super" pixel in the image. This way there is no interpolation of colors because the true color information is available. The finished image size reduces to 25% of the original. I did a comparison to my regular interpolated stacking method and found two advantages. Firstly there was no resolution loss but actually a gain in detail which surprised me. Also the colors were broader in range and richer in comparison also. All in all a good result. I did have some star elongation due to wind and coma issues.

I was quite pleased with the result and I thought it was worth putting up for comment. Ill be keento aquire a stack of 30 well guided images when conditions allow to see how far this methodology can take my imaging. Exciting stuff!!
