Description

The Orion Nebula (also known as Messier 42, NGC 1976) is a diffuse nebula situated in the Milky Way, being south of Orion's Belt in the constellation of Orion. It is one of the brightest nebulae, and is visible to the naked eye in the night sky. M42 is located at a distance of 1,344 ± 20 light years and is the closest region of massive star formation to Earth.

NGC 1980 is located just south of the Great Orion Nebula in a rich field of the Milky Way. It is a bright cluster of 30 stars embedded in a large, elongated nebula near Iota Orionis. The cluster features the colorful triple 44 Orionis, which has a bluish-white primary and secondary, and a red third star. Iota Orionis is the brightest star in the sword of Orion. It is at the tip of the sword. It also has the traditional names Hatsya, or in Arabic, Na’ir al Saïf, which simply means "The Brilliant of the Sword."

Messier 43, also known as De Mairan's Nebula and NGC 1982, is a star-forming nebula with a prominent H II region in the equatorial constellation of Orion. She is part of the Orion Nebula (Messier 42), being separated from the main nebula by a dense lane of dust known as the northeast dark lane.

PGC 3081010 is a Galaxy appearing in the constellation Orion.

The beautiful grouping of reflection nebulae NGC 1973, NGC 1975, and NGC 1977 in Orion are often overlooked in favor of the better known Orion Nebula (M 42). But this bright nebulous complex is interesting in its own right, being one of the brightest reflection nebulae in the sky.
