Description

The Cone Nebula...among other things. Can you spot Hubble's Variable Nebula? I froze while imaging this one, but I really enjoyed processing it. In spite of the wind, the seeing wasn't nearly as bad as I thought it would be and the image turned out more nicely than I expected. I'll be revisiting this one to get some more time on it.

The Cone Nebula is an H II region in Monoceros. It was discovered by William Herschel on December 26, 1785 and is roughly 830 parsecs from Earth, which translates into roughly 2,700 light years.
