Description

The Bubble Nebula, so named for its unique shape, was created by massive solar winds from a nearby star (20 times more massive than our own Sun). This wind, travelling at 4 million mph, has carved a bubble shape into the gas that spans more than 7 light years across (4.11494987 × 10^13 miles).

The Bubble Nebula is located int he constellation Cassiopeia some 11,300 light years distant.

The upper left area of the image contains an open star cluster named M52. An "open cluster" is a group of young stars born from the same stellar nursery. M52 is estimated to be about 35 million years old.
