Description

With windless guiding and 41 dithered frames to choose from, I was anticipating a good result. I have had good results with Startools processing and this was good data to start with. I was again using the software binning that Startools offers to increase S/N and more accurate color. The binning effectively creates super pixels from each RGGB group from the sensor. The result was lots more fine and soft detail which was missing on my last Tarantula image which was not binned. More detail and with a far less overall pixel count is a bit counter intuitive, but it is there.

The Tarantula Nebula is a gigantic star forming region 160,000 light years away residing in the LMC, a companion galaxy to the Milky Way. Despite the enormous distance involved it is still quite a large object on my APSC sensor. It has an unusually high O III emission for a stellar nursery and also a lower Ha than expected. Certainly a turbulent region and a rewarding target to image!
