Description

A fun project from last night - while the Summer Milky Way is easy to photograph, these constellations seem to be a little more difficult. My crappy kit lens is far from ideal for this, with a lot of cropped out curvature around the edges, but it still produced a fairly decent result. I may have to borrow lenses from friends to continue with the wide-fields as my funding is mainly directed towards more DSO-imaging equipment.

The conditions have been surprisingly pleasant for February, though last night had increasing humidity and the sky, while having abnormally good seeing conditions, was still plagued by thin bands of high altitude clouds, which can be seen running from top to bottom in this image.

I was pleased to barely capture some details of Barnard's Loop and some faint reds around Meissa, though they required some help in Saturation to be noticeable for the final picture.
