Description

The North Celestial Pole (NCP) is an imaginary point illustrating the rotation of the Earth on its axis. The axis itself is stationary and all objects rotate around it, completing a full rotation per day. The NCP shifts every 25,700 years in a process known as a precession of the equinoxes where it will complete a circuit around the celestial sphere and will move from the Age of Pisces, to the age of Aquarius sometime in the mid-3rd millennium. This 10-minute stacked photo was shot from my backyard and illustrates my view of the NCP. The star just slightly off the NCP centre that’s not trailing is Polaris, which is a.k.a. The North Star.
