Description

NGC 2359, Sharpless 2-298, or Thor's Helmet, is an emission nebula in Canis Major. It is about 12,000 light years away and 30 light years across. The central star is a Wold-Rayet star, a super hot star thought to be in a pre-supernova stage.

Optics: Hyperion f/8 12.5 inch, FL 2540 mm

Mount: Paramount ME

Camera: Sbig STL-11000

Guiding: Self-guided

Exposure: HaRGB: Ha:14x20min R:10x10 min, G:10x10 min, B:16x10 min for a total of 10.6 hrs.

Processing: Image acquisition using CCD Autopilot. The RGB color image was created in Maxim. The HA and RGB image were combined and processed in Photoshop.
