Description

I spent this morning bringing out as much faint stuff as I could get out of the Leo Triplet image from 24 March that I just posted. And there they were - the quasars! I could see at least five of them (admittedly they are very faint). They are marked by arrows. I used this site to pick them out:

http://www.waid-observatory.com/ngc3628-2016-03-31-quasars.html

I had not expected that 3 hours with a 5" scope and a DSLR camera could pick up light sent out about 10 000 000 000 years ago. These quasars are between 4 and 10 Giga light years away (calculated from the red shift, see the Waid Observatory site). The one to the right of the galaxy, which stands out rather clearly, is 10 Giga ly away!
